Church Consultant Website Project Part 4

Church Consultant - Search

We are tracking the progress of our church consultant website to help shed some insight on the process of building a website for a church or ministry and trying to get that website to show up on page 1 of a Google search. We put together a very simple beginning website at churchconsultant.org using WordPress.

On the day we launched the website one of the first things we did was to write a short first post. This post is designed to let the search engines know that the website now exists.

Go ahead and look over the post in the image above and take notice of the three hyperlinks. Hyperlinks are very effective in getting the attention of the search engine robots. Within thirty-six hours of launching the website and writing this first post the website is already known by the search engines. We did a google search with the domain name in quotations to check to see if Google had found the website.

Using quotations in your search narrows the search to show only results that match exactly what is inside the quotation marks. We are just trying to see if Google has found the website. And it has:

If we remove the quotation marks and search just for church consultant the new website shows up because of the first post, but it is way back on page 22.

So, the website is showing up as the the 221st result for church consultant on the entire internet. I actually think that is a pretty good day 3 result. We also checked to see if the website could be found on Bing.

There we are in position 11 at the top of page 2. It should not take long at all to be in the top two or three results on Bing. Unfortunately, 90% of people use Google so ranking on Bing is nice but does not produce much traffic. We also checked to see if AOL had found us.

After the ads, our brand new, two day old website showed up as number one. Again, interesting, but if you want to get organic traffic you have to show up in the top three results on Google. So, we have to get to work to get our website to move from page 22 to the top of page 1. I am looking forward to the challenge and to tracking the progress. More updates on our new church consultant website in the days to come.
